PART-TIME GUEST SERVICES/PROGRAM ASSISTANT

The Explore More Discovery Museum seeks energetic, creative, team-oriented individual to serve as part-time guest services staff responsible for supervising daily museum operations, assisting with special programs and working with community volunteers. Applicants must be available to work most weekends.

Approximately 20 - 30 hours offered within the following times:
Tuesdays - Saturdays 9:30 – 5:30, Sunday afternoons and evenings for special events as needed. The museum will coordinate shifts to accommodate student class schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS

•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

•        Ability to manage busy front reception desk area with limited supervision

•        Experience working with young children and families

•        Dedication to Explore More’s educational mission

•        Servant leader, willing to work with the team to ensure the best Museum experience

MAKER CITY “MAKERSPACE” Intern 

Now accepting applications for Summer/Fall 2024. 

Maker City Interns will have an opportunity to work in the museum makerspace designed for youth ages 8+. Applicants should have prior experience in one or more of the following skill areas: laser cutting, vinyl cutting, graphic design, sewing and fabric arts, fine arts, woodworking, web design, videography and photo editing. Applicants should also enjoy working with children in the target age group and work well in a collaborative environment. 


PROGRAM INTERN

Now accepting applications for Summer 2024

Interns work within the museum’s Education Department as program assistants, facilitating gallery exploration for field trip groups, and conducting public programming for family audiences. Students will gain practical experience teaching in an informal education setting while also learning operating procedures and best practices required to run a successful children’s museum. 


NONPROFIT STUDIES INTERN

This is a supervised internship/practicum experience in a nonprofit organization setting that provides experiential learning and practice experiences. To receive class credit as part of the James Madison University Nonprofit Internship Overview NPS 400 Course, applicants must coordinate with their supervisor. A research or applied project, learning journals and presentation based on the experience are required.

SUMMER TEEN INTERN PROGRAM - 2024 APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Explore More is looking for energetic volunteers to join our Summer Teen Intern Program!

As a member of our team, volunteers will gain valuable leadership skills as they become an assistant for our summer camp programming in classes that range from baking desserts to building with LEGOs to creating sculptures.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 13 years old

  • Can commit to helping with one full week of summer camp (5 consecutive days, ~18 hours) PLUS 10 hours of camp or floor volunteering

  • Has a friendly attitude

  • Enjoys working with kids
