Intro to Maker City
First Saturdays of the Month | 10 AM - Noon
Interested in Maker City but not sure how to get started? These introductory sessions are perfect for youth who are just turning 8 or have never participated in Maker City. Participants will receive a tour, try some guided activities, and then have free time to explore and create. Introductory workshops are FREE with membership or paid admission. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rosie Revere’s Inventor Challenge: Engineering Solutions! - Workshop is full; join wait list
Saturday, March 21 | 10 AM - 12 PM
Join us for a hands-on workshop inspired by the beloved book Rosie Revere, Engineer! Young inventors will step into Rosie’s shoes to design, build, and test a project that solves a real-world problem. From brainstorming and sketching to creating simple prototypes, kids will explore creativity, perseverance, and teamwork. Whether they choose to help someone, fix a household problem, or simply make life more fun, this workshop encourages them to turn big ideas into real inventions—just like Rosie!

Solar Oven S’mores: Cooking with the power of the sun!
Saturday, April 18 | 10 AM - 12 PM
Get ready for a delicious science adventure! In this hands-on workshop, makers will build their very own solar ovens using simple materials like pizza boxes, foil, and plastic wrap. Then we’ll harness the power of the sun to make gooey, melty s’mores—no campfire needed! Along the way, we’ll explore concepts like solar energy, heat transfer, and renewable resources in a fun, tasty way.

Build a Bird Feeder: Feed the Birds, Fuel the Fun!
Saturday, May 16 | 10 AM - 12 PM
In this hands-on workshop, kids will design, build, and decorate their very own bird feeder using simple materials and tools. Along the way, they’ll learn about local bird species, what birds eat, and how we can help support wildlife in our own backyards. This fun and creative activity blends engineering, nature education, and art—and every participant will leave with a feeder ready to hang at home! Let’s build something tweet-tastic!

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
Workshops are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call the museum if you would like to check on class status. You may complete the registration form and waiver online. Payment must be received by Explore More to secure a space in the class. We are only able to accept credit card payments in person and through online registration. We regret that we are unable to accept credit card payment over the phone and cannot hold spots, for any length of time, while waiting for a payment to arrive. In the event that minimum enrollments are not met, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule classes. If this occurs, your entire fee will be refunded. There are no refunds for classes dropped less than 10 business days before class begins. A 50% refund will be issued if the museum is notified in writing at least 10 business days before class starts.
PHOTO WAIVER:
Explore More Discovery Museum reserves the right to use photos taken during classes and workshops for use in marketing. If you do not wish to have your child’s photo used for the museum’s purposes, please submit a request in writing with your registration form.
PICK UP/DROP OFF:
Please check in with your child at the front desk at 150 South Main Street in downtown Harrisonburg no more than 10 minutes before the class begins. The museum asks that each child be signed in at the beginning of class and signed out at the end. If someone other than the child’s parent or guardian is picking the child up from class, please notify the museum.
