Superhero science (ages 6 - 10) - Class is full

What is the secret behind Spider Man’s incredible climbing powers? How do Batman’s gadgets really work? We'll use biology, physics, chemistry and engineering to discover the secret behind these and some of the other amazing powers of your favorite Super Heroes!


*Ages 8+ can stay all day...Combine Explore Maker City and Superhero Science. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Explore Maker city (8+) - Class is full
June 10 - 14 / 9:00AM - 12:00 PM

We'll explore each of the major making stations so you'll gain the skills to become more independent with laser cutting, 3D printing, sewing, electronics, woodworking, and more!  Whether you are just beginning or need to update your skills, this camp will familiarize you with all that Maker City has to offer.

Lego robotics (Ages 8+) - Class is full
June 17 - 21 / 
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Using Lego Mindstorm EV3 software, older Lego enthusiasts will be exposed to the latest in Lego Robotics! Through hands-on engaging activities, kids will learn valuable problem-solving methods, teamwork, basic coding, engineering concepts, and computer skills as they build and program the robots.

*Ages 8+ can stay all day...Combine Lego Robotics and Jedi Training. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Trash to treasure  (ages 8+)
June 24 - 28 / 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This class is all about creative resourcefulness and re-purposing. Use materials the museum provides, and bring your own "junk" to upcycle! Turn old clothes into the latest fashion, use broken objects to create works of art, or use old appliance parts to invent something brand new.

Use Maker City tools and equipment to transform ordinary items. Save our planet and make cool things, too!
Remember…one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Hogwarts Express (6 - 10) - Class is Full
July 8 - 12 / 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Are you still waiting for your letter to come via owl mail? Well, wait no more! You are invited to join us for a whole week of wizarding school at Explore More. We'll have Potions class, Transfigurations, Care of Magical Creatures, Quidditch and more! 

*You can stay all day...Combine Magic Tree House and Hogwarts Express. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch.

Run the Newsroom (AGES 8+)
July 15 – 19 / 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Young Journalists will work with our partners at WHSV to learn what it takes to research, write, film and report a news story.  We will meet at the museum but will walk to the TV Station and spend part of each day immersed in the behind the scenes world of a real news room.

 

3D Printing (ages 8+) - Class is full
July 22 - 26 / 9:00 – 12:00 PM

Students will spend the week using software program called Tinkercad and learning how to break down real-world objects into 3D shapes. They’ll also learn about the 3D printing process, taking the objects they designed and turning them into physical keepsakes!


*Stay all day option....Combine 3D Printing and Animals + Anatomy or Stop Motion. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Stop Motion Animation (Ages 8+)
July 22 - 26 / 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Student movie directors will work in teams to create stop motion movies using characters created from clay, Legos and other objects they create. Children will come up with the story and script, create backgrounds and scenery and then film their production using a camera and animation software. The last day will include a movie screening for friends and families.

*Ages 8+ can stay all day...Combine Stop Motion Animation and Mythbusting Science or 3D Printing. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Lego We-Do (Ages 6 - 10)
July 29 - Aug 2
/ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This class is for Lego maniacs who are ready to delve into the world of engineering and computer programming. Campers will learn all about simple machines as they work in teams to build and program Lego robots using the We-Do Lego curriculum.

Kids Code (ages 6 - 10) - Class is Full
AUGust 5 - 9 / 1:00 – 4:00 PM

If you want to learn the logic of computer programming in a fun and engaging environment then join us for this introduction to coding camp! Students will use a variety of programming platforms, including Scratch and Code.org to create interactive art, make and play games and tell animated stories. 

*Stay all day option....Combine Gizmos + Gadgets and Kids Code. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Jedi training (ages 6 - 10) - Class is full
June 17 - 21 / 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Ready to channel the force and use it for good? Young Padawans will begin Jedi training and explore the real world science behind the mythical world of Star Wars. Make a light saber, build a pod racer, or engineer a model robot to master focus, bravery, quick thinking and kindness necessary be dubbed a Jedi Master!

*Ages 8+ can stay all day...Combine Lego Robotics and Jedi Training. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Magic Tree House (6-10) - Class is full
July 8 - 12 / 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join Jack and Annie on a series of adventures through time and space. Inspired by the beloved Magic Tree House books of Mary Pope Osborne, students will use art, music, science, engineering and more to explore a different culture or location each day.

Up with people jr (AGES 8-12)
JuLy 8 - 12/ 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Experience this all-day musical arts performance day camp that brings together local children, ages 8-11, to impact and inspire the community through education, team building, community service, music, dance and summer camp fun.

Mythbusting science (6 - 10) - Class is full
July 22 – 26 / 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

If you’re the kind of kid who thinks “seeing is believing,” then this is your camp! Create your own mythbusting science experiments designed to answer questions like, Does water ever run uphill? Does bread always land butter side down?...and more!

Animals + Anatomy (6 - 10) - Class is Full
July 22 - 26 / 1:00 – 4:00 PM

This class is for kids who want to learn about the animal world and anatomy close up! Kids will learn about different animal classifications and characteristics. They'll also explore different body systems, including the brain and nervous system and the respiratory and circulatory system. Each day includes a hands-on dissection experience.

Taste of Culture (Ages 6 - 10)
July 29 - Aug 2
/ 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Students in this class will chop, measure, mix and cook dishes inspired by cultures from around the globe. In addition to cooking, we’ll play games, make art and explore the history of a different country each week! The last day, students will host a family feast of some of their favorite foods from the class.

Gizmos + Gadgets (6 - 10) - Class is Full
August 5 - 9 / 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Are you ready to embark on a journey of invention?  This program is bursting with motors, wheels, lights- everything you need to unleash the maker within. We will inspire campers to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on-inventing, problem solving and creativity.

*Stay all day option....Combine Gizmos + Gadgets and Kids Code or Escape Room for 8+. Pack a lunch and we'll provide supervised lunch and recreation.

Escape Room Design (8+) - Class is full
AUGust 5 - 9 / 1:00 – 4:00 PM

Kids will use math, logic, storytelling and research skills as they work to put together a series of puzzles, codes, and problems for an escape room.  Each child will invite a parent, grandparent or other adult friend to try and escape on the last day of camp. Will you accept the challenge?
