Designed for curious learners, Explore More Learning Labs provide hands-on opportunities for homeschool students to explore, create, experiment, and discover. Each class combines engaging instruction with project-based learning, allowing students to build new skills while making meaningful connections to the world around them.

While students participate in their classes, siblings are welcome to enjoy playtime throughout the Museum with regular admission.

 

The Art of STEM
Grades K - 2 (Ages 5 - 8)
Four Session Series, Wednesdays in October | 9:30 - 11:30 AM

What happens when creativity meets science? In this hands-on exploration of art and STEM, young learners will discover the connections between famous artists and scientific concepts. Students will explore the work of artists like Alexander Calder, George Seurat, Frank Lloyd Wright, and M.C. Escher while experimenting with force and motion, color and light, architecture, and patterns. Through simple experiments, creative challenges, and hands-on projects, students will build curiosity, problem-solving skills, and confidence as they discover that art and science are connected in surprising ways.

INNOVATIONS + Inventions
Grades 3 - 5 (Ages 8 - 11)
Four Session Series, Wednesdays in October | 9:30 - 11:30 AM

Why do people invent? In this hands-on STEM class, students will explore the engineering design process as they identify problems, develop ideas, and create solutions. Through experiences with circuitry, coding, Arduino programming, motors, and prototyping, students will build foundational engineering and technology skills while learning how inventors bring ideas to life. Throughout the course, students will test, redesign, and improve their own creations while strengthening creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and perseverance.

THE ART OF STEM - Middle School Edition!
Grades 6 - 8 (Ages 11 - 14)
Four Session Series, Wednesdays in October | 12:30 - 2:30 PM

Explore the powerful connection between creativity and innovation in this advanced art and STEM experience. Students will take a deeper look at the work of influential artists including Alexander Calder, George Seurat, Frank Lloyd Wright, and M.C. Escher while investigating the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics behind their creations. Through experiments, design challenges, and real-world applications, students will explore topics such as force and motion, light and color, architecture, and mathematical design while developing their own creative solutions.

Cost: Members $75.00; Visitors $90.00

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

Classes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must be received by Explore More to secure a space in the class. In the event that minimum enrollments are not met, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule classes. If this occurs, your entire fee will be refunded. There are no refunds for classes dropped less than 10 business days before class begins. A 50% refund will be issued if the museum is notified in writing at least 10 business days before class starts.

PHOTO WAIVER:

Explore More Discovery Museum reserves the right to use photos taken during classes and workshops for use in marketing. If you do not wish to have your child’s photo used for the museum’s purposes, please submit a request in writing with your registration form.

PICK UP/DROP OFF:

Please check in with your child at the front desk at 150 South Main Street in downtown Harrisonburg no more than 10 minutes before the class begins. The museum asks that each child be signed in at the beginning of class and signed out at the end. If someone other than the child’s parent or guardian is picking the child up from class, please notify the museum.
