Volunteers are the backbone of the museum
Want to help? We always have opportunities in the following areas:
Interact with Children: Show the children how to safely play in the exhibits. Suggest areas they might enjoy trying.
Supervise and Maintain Exhibits: Explore the exhibits, restock supplies and keep the museum clean and safe.
Prepare Materials: Assemble packets, blow up balloons or other fun jobs to prepare for birthday parties, field trips, workshops, etc.
Youth volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Shifts are available on weekends, summer and other school holidays.
join the making movement!
Are you a Maker? If so, you might be interested in volunteering in our new makerspace for kids 8+. This creative workshop offers kids the opportunity to try woodworking, electronics, sewing, laser cutting, 3D printing, art, movie making and more!
be a LEADER
Youth Advisory Board (YAB): Play, learn, and serve! As a Youth Volunteer, you’ll meet lots of new people. You’ll work with children and build your teamwork, communication and leadership skills while making an impact on the lives of thousands of children. This is a great way to enhance your resume for scholarships, college applications, and future employment!
Internships: Want to gain real-world experience while making a difference at the Museum? Internships offer hands-on opportunities to boost your resume and improve your skills at a convenient location in downtown Harrisonburg.
Share your gifts: Do you enjoy planning fundraising events and programs or have expertise in the areas of marketing, non-profit governance or construction/exhibit design? Consider joining one of our committees!
BEHIND THE SCENES: If you can't come in person to help out, perhaps you have skills to share, instead. We are always in need of "behind the scenes" volunteers to construct or repair exhibits, mend costumes, and any number of equally essential jobs in the life of the museum.
