Part-time Guest Services Staff

The Explore More Discovery Museum, located in downtown Harrisonburg, seeks energetic, creative, team-oriented individual to serve as part-time guest services staff responsible for supervising daily museum operations, assisting with special programs and working with community volunteers.  Applicants must be available to work most weekends.

Summer Seasonal Hours:  Approximately 20 – 25 hours offered within the following times: Monday – Saturdays 9:00 – 5:30, First Fridays of the month 4:00 – 7:30 PM, evenings or special events as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

        Outgoing and comfortable promoting museum programs and services

        Ability to manage busy front office with limited supervision

        Experience working with young children and families

        Dedication to Explore More’s  educational mission

        Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)

INTERNSHIPS

 

Development Intern 

Now accepting applicants for 2018 semesters. 

Development Interns have a passion for non-profit organizations, education, children, community development, and business & administration. Students will gain hands-on experience with a small non-profit, build a strong resume, and engage with local businesses and community members. Interns become active team members with our small staff and make a meaningful impact on the children and community. 

Summer Program Intern 

Now accepting applications for summer 2018. 

The Summer Program Intern will actively assist museum staff in conducting and supervising Explorer Camps. This includes classroom set up and clean up, preparation of materials, interacting with, and directly supervising students. This position will offer practical experience teaching enrichment programs in the Museum's hands-on learning environment. 

 

Graphic Design Intern

Now accepting applications for 2018 semesters.

The Graphic Design Intern will assist the museum staff in updating, designing and producing print materials, signage and web graphics while maintaining brand consistency. The intern will participate as an active member of the museum Marketing Committee. This unique public setting offers unlimited creative possibilities for the student or young professional seeking to a build a stellar design portfolio.

MAKER CITY Intern 

Now accepting applications for summer 2018. 

Maker City Interns will have an opportunity to work in the museum makerspace designed for youth ages 8+. Applicants should have prior experience in one or more of the following skill areas: laser cutting, vinyl cutting, graphic design, sewing and fabric arts, fine arts, woodworking, web design, videography and photo editing. Applicants should also enjoy working with children in the target age group and work well in a collaborative environment.
