FIRST GRADE FIELD TRIPS:
Money Matters: This literature-based lesson will help children understand the concepts of goods, services, needs, wants and the importance of saving. Students will put together their own "save and spend" banks and have time to explore the Museum’s “Cash Flow” exhibit. SOLs- Econ 1.8 (a, b, c, d, e), Math 1.NS.1 (f)
Make it Move!: Students will dive into the science of motion as they experiment with balancing shapes, building spinning tops, and discovering what makes objects roll. Through hands-on challenges and playful exploration, they’ll uncover early math and science concepts in a way that’s active, creative, and full of discovery. Billy Goat Bridges: When the Gruff brothers need to cross the river but the troll is causing trouble, it’s up to the students to help! Using nonstandard units of measurement, children will problem-solve and collaborate to build a bridge sturdy enough to get the goats safely home. SOLs- Math 1.MG 1 (a, b), Science 1.1 (a, b, d, e)
