Volunteers are the backbone of the museum.
We're always looking for help in the following areas:
Interacting with Children: Show the children how to properly and safely use the exhibits. Suggest areas or activities the children might enjoy trying.
Supervising and Maintaining Exhibits: This means you will walk around from exhibit to exhibit, restocking supplies and making sure the museum is clean and safe.
Preparing Materials / Supplies for Special Events: You might be asked to cut things out, assemble packets, blow up balloons or any number of other fun jobs to help us prepare for special events like birthday parties, field trips, workshops, etc.
Youth volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Shifts are available on weekends, summer and other school holidays.
Serving on a Committee: If you enjoy planning fundraising events and programs or have expertise in the areas of marketing, non-profit governance or construction/exhibit design, consider joining one of our committees. Fill out the form below to get started.
Youth Advisory Board: Play, learn, and serve! As a Youth Volunteer, you’ll volunteer with other students from the area and meet lots of new people. You’ll work with children and build your teamwork, communication and leadership skills while making an impact on the lives of thousands of children. This is a great way to enhance your resume for scholarships, college applications, and future employment! Apply HERE
Internships: Want to gain real-world experience while making a difference at the Museum? Internships offer hands-on opportunities to boost your resume and improve your skills at a convenient location in downtown Harrisonburg.
Skill To Share
If you can't come in person to help out, perhaps you have skills to share, instead. We are always in need of "behind the scenes" volunteers to construct or repair exhibits, mend costumes, and any number of equally essential jobs in the life of the museum.
