THIRD GRADE FIELD TRIPS:

  • Pebbles, Sand and Silt: Our whole world is made of rocks and soil.  Students will get their hands dirty as they discover that rocks come in many different shapes and forms and that pebbles and sand are the same material, just different sizes. SOLs: Math 3.17, 3.19; Science 3.1, 3.3, 3.7

  • Simple Machines:  Why are simple machines so important, and how do they help us?  Students will discover the answer to these and many other questions as they construct examples of simple machines and put them to use.  SOLs: Math 3.17; Science 3.1, 3.2

  • Economics of the Farmer’s Market:  During this literature-based lesson, students will explore concepts of specialization, goods, services, and natural, capital and human resources. They will also calculate and spend money in the museum Farmer’s Market and learn about opportunity cost. SOLs: Social Studies 3.9; Math 3.5, 3.8
